SCULPTURE
My materials-led sculptural practice focuses on ideas of motion, animation and flux, using bronze, wood and clay. While not actually kinetic, I create spatial and dynamic configurations to capture and render motion, constructing complex sculptural forms from multiple elements. The ceramics have intricate painted surfaces that ‘pulse,’ creating illusionary visual perceptions and upsetting the spatial perception of depth of field.

Exploring a multiplicity of vantage points, I work with composite forms in relationship to each other. Constructing wood sculptures from reclaimed and found wood, rather than carving them from a single piece, allows for an openness of form.

I seek to capture a physical manifestation of suspended animation, a transitory fragment in time, a fleeting moment. Working predominantly with wood, ceramic and more recently, bronze, I construct sculptures generating an energetic interplay between the parts and with rhythmic qualities of motion. I’m interested in embodying a sense of unease and tension, in making pieces that teeter on the edge of stability.
